USGS Reports Multiple Tremors in Alaska and New Mexico

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has reported a series of earthquakes in Alaska and New Mexico over the past few days. The strongest earthquake, a magnitude 7.2, struck Sand Point, Alaska on Sunday, August 10th. This was followed by a 6.9 earthquake in Unalaska, Alaska on August 12th, and a 5.9 earthquake in Jal, New Mexico on August 14th.

The earthquakes have caused damage to buildings and infrastructure in both states. In Alaska, the 7.2 earthquake caused a tsunami that flooded coastal areas. In New Mexico, the 5.9 earthquake caused power outages and gas leaks.

There have been no reports of injuries or deaths as a result of the earthquakes. However, the USGS has warned that there could be additional aftershocks in the coming days.

The USGS is urging residents in the affected areas to be prepared for further earthquake activity. Residents should have a plan in place for what to do in the event of an earthquake, including where to go and what supplies to have on hand.
